I am always writing that Chatham-Kent is the perfect location to live, work, retire or vacation. and I truly believe that. Chatham-Kent, from my viewpoint as a Real Estate agent, is the Affordable Lifestyle Location. If you live here you are probably saying what affordability? You may feel justified in your thinking. Prices have risen during these unprecedented times. However, if you are coming from other areas, you will agree with me. Someone for instance, from the Greater Toronto area or for that matter any large area like Vancouver can sell their family home there, buy a nice retirement home in Chatham-Kent and still have funds left for their retirement. Prices are crazy and rising in the major centres across the country but Chatham-Kent has remained fairly stable in comparison, lower than many other locations.
Chatham-Kent is located in the middle of the Great Lakes and affords us many amenities such as fishing, hunting, boating, bird watching , wind surfing as well as great beaches at area resorts, making it the ideal location for any age group.
We have 9 Golf Courses in Chatham-Kent and although we do have winter and some years more frigid than others, we are called the Banana Belt of Ontario since our temperatures are usually mild, offering a longer season to enjoy golfing.
Chatham-Kent has a great variety of activities that are directed to seniors. The Active Life Centre on Merritt Ave. in Chatham now includes their latest 3000 square foot addition. At the latest count, membership had grown to 1200 people plus, all of them seniors, 50 years or older. However, they are not the stereotype older parents or grandparents, this group wants to remain active and busy.
The Active Life Centre has something for everyone. Membership is nominal. There are so many activities available, classes, day trips even a wood working shop. Covid has taken its toll on many of these activities but the centre has improvised especially as the weather has improved. They serve great meals for take out and even have a new patio for dining with daily reasonably priced specials.. They have hosted Saturday Markets which I am told were well attended. Check out the centre and all it has to offer. My wife has run a few programs at the Centre in past years and she can attest to the friendly atmosphere that greets new and past visitors. It is a great way to meet new people and enjoy those Golden Years. It sure beats TV and you will definitely feel better. My wife praises the Chair Yoga and the Gentle Yoga sessions.

It has been a long 18 months but I know our Community will bounce back bigger and better than it was.
As you have read in the paper lately there are some investors who believe that and are ready to make it happen! Downtown Chatham will soon take on a whole new vibe with the sale and future plans for repurposing the Downtown Chatham Centre and the sale of the former Navistar property on Richmond St. in Chatham which is slated for Industrial. This promises to be a draw for more jobs and a bright future for Chatham and our community as a whole.
