Those of us who love vintage automobiles and the many car show events that take place each year in Chatham-Kent have certainly missed our Annual Retrofest Celebration in Chatham which usually takes place the 3rd weekend of May. Last year, due to Covid the event had to be cancelled. The Historic Downtown Chatham-Kent Business Improvement Area and the Kent Historic Auto Club are the hosts for this annual event and they have done an excellent job for several years. A record 800 vehicles attended in 2019 during the RM Sotheby’s 40th Anniversary. The event usually draws between 470 to 550 vintage vehicles with thousands of people coming from all over to watch the Friday night parade and view the cars on display on Kings St. on Saturday.
This year the organizers have been very busy planning a virtual event to be held this Friday night June 25 2021 from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M. and Saturday June 26 from 11 A.M until 2 P.M. Registration for owners is taking place on the website and host Greg Hetherington from 99.1 and his co-host will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Friday night Live
Stream Cruise Party. The Friday event will feature a few hand-picked vehicles within the mini-cruise and a live stream concert. There will be guest speakers and the Ms. Retrofest Contestants will be introduced. It promises to be great fun and very entertaining.
Saturday will feature live music , a number of vehicles with their owners and their stories. My wife and I always enjoy walking down King St. during Retrofest, viewing the cars and talking to the owners who are always glad to share the details of their prize vehicles.
Ms. Retrofest will be announced, as well as the Car Choice Awards and other contest winners.
The sponsors and the event organizers have worked hard for all of us to enjoy some parts of this great weekend we all missed so much last year. Tune in and enjoy the fruits of their labor. It promises to be a real hightlight in these times when so many of our events have had to be cancelled due to Covid Restrictions. See you there, virtually this year and hopfully in person in 2022.
